The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) 11 (Davao Region) is introducing farmers to smart technologies that use data, automation, and artificial intelligence for more sustainable agriculture.<\/p>\n
DOST-11, through the Southern Mindanao Agriculture, Aquatic and Resources Research and Development Consortium, showcased innovations, including Zappify, an IoT-based pest control device.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese technologies are proof that science and innovation are not abstract concepts but real, practical tools that can transform the way our farmers work,\u201d DOST-11 Director Anthony Sales said in an interview Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Sales said Zappify uses sensors to detect pests and activate control mechanisms only when needed, reducing pesticide use and costs.<\/p>\n
Another innovation uses multispectral imaging to provide detailed data on plant health and soil conditions, helping farmers decide when to irrigate, fertilize, or harvest.<\/p>\n
The INDAI system, meanwhile, uses AI and non-invasive imaging to assess durian quality without cutting the fruit open, helping growers meet market standards and reduce waste.<\/p>\n
