Dubbed \u201cSM Green Finds x Zarah Juan\u2019s The Tarp Project,\u201d used tarpaulins from SM Store are collected, repurposed and given new life. This aligns with the principles of a circular economy which emphasizes the importance of reusing and recycling materials to minimize waste and lower the environmental impact of SM Store. <\/p>\n

Aside from helping consumers pivot to a more sustainable lifestyle, by offering green finds at SM Store, \u201cThe partnership of SM Store with Zarah Juan promotes circularity and seeks to empower local communities by cultivating their competencies and promote livelihood\u201d said Dhinno Tiu, SM Store EVP. <\/p>\n

For its initial circular project, SM Store is repurposing used tarpaulin, that could have ended up in landfills, posing threats to soil and water bodies.<\/p>\n

When collected, the Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) in Quezon City will be tasked with the cleaning and cutting of the tarpaulins. The printing and assembly of bags will be done by local bag artisans in Bulacan.<\/p>\n

Filipina Designer and Circularity Advocate Zarah Juan said it was a privilege for her to collaborate with SM Store to help promote circularity and green living among Filipino shoppers.<\/p>\n

In crafting the design, Juan took into consideration, functionality, practicality and production efficiency. \u201cThe seamless coordination of the project hinges on the careful consideration of each step and aspect of the design process. Moreover, I prioritized ensuring that the colors and prints transcend fleeting trends, aiming for enduring appeal and longevity, a reflection of the bag\u2019s overarching purpose,\u201d Juan said.<\/p>\n

Proceeds from the sale of the SM Green Finds x Zarah Juan Tarp Project, will be donated to SM Foundation\u2019s youth and education projects, advocating a cycle of empowerment and social impact.<\/p>\n
