Filipina Personalities Who Are Advocates Of Environmental Conservation

Our environment’s condition is not getting better anytime soon; it calls for urgent attention and action from its people. It needs people to look after it, safeguard its natural beauty, and become advocates for its protection and conservation.

In line with this, several influencers or personalities utilized their platforms to advocate for certain issues that needed public discussion, including environmental awareness. On top of it all, women with big platforms are stepping up their game to contribute to spreading awareness, education, and influence on protecting Mother Earth.

In celebration of Women’s Month, here are Filipina personalities and celebrities who are at their best in trying to make a difference in protecting our environment.

1. Chai Fonacier

We may know Chai Fonacier from her eccentric supporting character roles in various films and television shows. Still, she has also been doing an incredible job of doing projects that shed light on environmental awareness.

In 2016, she made a six-part video in collaboration with Sutukil Sauce, debunking the myths about climate change. She portrayed a character named Kuradpya Jones in the said video. Chai is also seen in The Climate Reality Project Philippines, discussing hydrofluorocarbons through a video skit, shedding light on their impact on our environment.

2. Gabbi Garcia

Gabbi Garcia is a homegrown talent of Sparkle GMA Artist Center, and she has been notable as an actress and a social media personality. With over 1.30 million subscribers on her YouTube channel, the Sparkle GMA Artist is using her influence to spread awareness of plastic pollution. As a child, Gabbi has been participating in local clean-up drives and underwater clean-ups.

3. Bea Binene

Another talent of GMA Sparkle, Bea Binene, is another climate action advocate who made this list. The GMA talent has been in the entertainment industry since the 2000s and is remarkable as a cast member of ‘Mulawin vs. Ravena.’

After the airing of the said show ended in 2017, Bea Binene worked on her self-produced advocacy film about climate justice, ‘Fading Paradise,’ which was released in the same year.

4. Janine Gutierrez

Janine Gutierrez is admired by many due to her charisma as a model and an actress, as she has starred in numerous films and shows in recent years.

Although she just started in the industry a few years ago, the 34-year-old actress is an active advocate of several environmental campaigns. She became an ambassador of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Philippines and has supported climate justice campaigns like #NowPH.

5. Iza Calzado

When talking about ambassadors of the WWF Philippines, Iza Calzado is another go-getter as an advocate of a cleaner and greener environment. Since being appointed as a national ambassador of the WWF Philippines, she has been vocal about the importance of living an eco-friendly and sustainable lifestyle.

6. Jasmine Curtis-Smith

This 29-year-old Filipino-Aussie personality is another environmental advocate who has been shedding light on issues like energy independence and mindful lifestyle practices.

Jasmine Curtis-Smith became the first ambassador of the Philippine Energy Independence Council, where one of its objectives as an organization is to find alternative and sustainable energy sources.

7. Nadine Lustre

As a certified beach lover and a resident of Siargao Island, Nadine Lustre was one of the most influential female celebrities at the time and was exceptional at using her big following as an environmental advocate.

The FAMAS awardee actress and social media personality is adored by many people due to her style, lifestyle, and advocacy for a greener environment. She is also a huge lover of nature, an advocate of sustainable fashion, and was admired dearly for expressing her opinion about how environmental literacy should be taught in schools.

This Women’s Month, let us keep on recognizing Filipina personalities who continue to use their voices and platforms to champion different causes and advocacies. Through their various campaigns and initiatives, we hope that other personalities will be influenced by their love for Mother Earth.

In a world where environmental issues are increasingly becoming more serious, these women’s advocates stand as a true inspiration to the current generation.
